It's funny, what things you can totally bury during the day, that suddenly pop up at 1:30 in the morning to keep you awake. Like the haunting memory of holding a young kitten as he takes his last breaths after the pink juice courses through his veins. An innocent life taken because a couple fuck nuts couldn't be responsible enough to spay and neuter their cats. Forget mandatory spay neuter laws...everyone who chooses not to spay or neuter should be required to spend one afternoon at a kill shelter, holding the animals who have to be euthanized simply because there is no room. The kittens today tested positive for a communicable disease...but hundreds others today died simply because they were here, and there was no where to put them. At times like this I really hate people. I hate that humanity can't just fucking think ahead. Use some fucking common sense. Millions of healthy animals are killed every year cause we don't have enough homes, why the hell would you let your animal have more? I try to be open minded, and say that there are "responsible" breeders out there. And "responsible" people who don't have their pets altered because they think it's healthiest. But how responsible is it to bring another life into the world when hundreds others are killed for no reason. And for christ's sake, one time that they accidentally get loose...there's that many more animals who don't have a home. Or are taking a home that another could have had.
Thanks for listening...I really needed to rant. We have a very good client who rescues as many cats as she can and finds them homes. She brought 2 kittens in today that we had to euthanize because they tested positive. It was heart wrenching just dealing with this case, I can't imagine how shelter workers do it, day after day. We sedated first, and used euthanasia solution. In my state it's still legal to use a gas chamber. Animals thrown in together, panicking and scared for their last moments of life. I can't imagine.
